If you can remember from my last most,“Why Netflix Isn’t Texting You Back,” I did a social media audit of Netflix, so if you haven’t read it, you can catch up here. Anyway, as I did an audit for Netflix, my classmate Adele completed one for Disney +. I made a list about what these two media giants have in common when it comes to social media:
1. Kings of Ghosting
Okay, so we know Netflix will never, ever, respond to a tweet, comment, share, anything, but I didn’t think such a family-friendly, wholesome, role-model for all would do the same. On “ New Study Examines How Brand Engagement on Social Influences Purchase Behavior” by Social Media Today, talks about how brands should use social media as a tool for two-way communication.
Both Disney+ and Netflix will, I repeat, never, ever, in a million years, text you back.
Short and simple.
2. Champions of the Meme

Netflix
Disney+
Netflix: Disney+:
Just like we mentioned in the first post, memes being used on social have very apparent reactions. On Sprout Social’s Article, “Marketing Memes: Do They Work?” they go over how memes have an immediate reaction, and while they shouldn’t be used blindly, they’re a great way to humanize your brand. As you can see above, Netflix and Disney+ are #twinning because they both use great, current memes that help humanize their companies and make them more relatable to the user.
3. Undefeated At Talking To Themselves
As I mentioned before, and probably will never stop mentioning, Netflix and Disney + will never, ever, text you back. However, they will text THEMSELVES back. Netflix will comment, tweet, etc their account by their OTHER accounts, Netflix Films, etc. even shows the have on their streaming service. Disney + does the same. They’ll comment, respond, tweet, from their other accounts like Marvel. These two media giants will ghost you hard, but they’ll talk to themselves all day.
Disney+ and Netflix are both these huge streaming services that provide us with daily entertainment. Before this audit, I didn’t think they’d have a lot in common when it comes to social media practices since they’re not under the same parent brand. It turns out they have almost the same exact media practices. The biggest takeaway for me after all this was that if you’re big enough, you don’t have to follow all the social media rules to be successful. If you don’t respond to people, it’s not the best (or nicest!) social media practice, but people will love you just the same, since you make such a difference in their lives. (Imagine not having Netflix!) Anyways, tangent over.
Huge thanks to Adele for sharing her audit of Disney+!
